Charles Lewis Suckow

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union for Charles Lewis Suckow, 67, of West Union, who died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 15, at Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall, Minn.

Rev. V. A. Baderschneider was in charge of the services, with Burnham and Wood Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Burial was in the West Union Cemetery.

The casket bearers were James Davis, Clarion Hagelie, Lawrence Guyer, Oscar Reeder, Ronald Schute and Clarence Weitenhagen.

Charles Lewis Suckow, son of Fred and Sophia (Schave) Suckow, was born on a farm near Castalia on March 16, 1913. He was baptized on June 8, 1913, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.

He received his education in rural schools near Clermont and Maynard and was confirmed March 28, 1926, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Maynard.

On June 22, 1939 he was united in marriage with Helen Springer at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. They became the parents of six children.

They farmed their entire married life in the West Union and Hawkeye areas. In 1978 he retired and they moved to West Union. He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, since 1930.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Mrs. Merlin (Esther) Bachman; a brother, Alfa and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; six children, Mrs. Boyd (Carol) Wolf of Oelwein, Mrs. James (Bonnie) Goeller of Fairbank, Mrs. Duane (Darlene) Pleis of Fairbank, JoAnn of Postville, Sandra of Marshall, Minn., and Ralph of Hawkeye; 8 grandchildren, Tracy and Mark Pleis, Robert, Gary, Kay and John Goeller, Brenda and Wendy Suckow; 4 brothers, Otto of Waterloo, Helmuth of Oelwein, Henry of Monona and Lester of Frankville; 3 sisters, Mrs. Viola Ihde of Monona, Mrs. Ruth Helgerson of Postville and Mrs. Ruby Mabb of West Union; nieces, nephews and cousins.
