Funeral Services For John M. Bakewell

Funeral services for John M. Bakewell, 77, Clermont, were held Tuesday, march 16, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church, Clermont. Presider and Homilist was Rev. Donald Bakewell. Concelebrant was Rev. Roger L. Katz. Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery, Clermont, with military honors by Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375, Clermont.

John Michael Bakewell, son of Michael William and Theresa (Morgan) Bakewell, was born June 18, 1915 on a farm near Lansing, Iowa. He died Saturday, March 13, 1993 in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis.

He attended the Immaculate Conception School in Lansing; farmed with his parents for a short time and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII. On Oct. 12, 1944 he was united in marriage to Joycelyn Marilyn Engle in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Clermont. To this union 3 children were born. After his discharge from the Army, John and Joycelyn purchased a produce and feed business in Clermont, which they operated for 20 years. In 1965 he was employed by the Valley Co-op where he worked for 15 years. John retired in 1980. During this time they owned and operated the Clermont Gift and Sundries shop.

John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Clermont, the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375 for 48 years, the Catholic Order of Foresters for 40 years and an AA member for 18 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Mary Robinson, and 3 brothers, Vincent, Lawrence and Joseph Bakewell.

John is survived by his wife, Joycelyn; a son, John Bakewell of Eden Prairie, Minn.; 2 daughters, Jacquelyn Bakewell of LaCrosse, Wis. and Junanne Bakewell of Minneapolis, Minn.; a granddaughter; one sister, Stacia Quillen of LaCrosse, Wis., and several nephews and nieces.
