Florence Henrietta Blockhus

Funeral services were held for Florence Henrietta Blockhus, 79, Elgin, Tuesday, Aug. 29, 1989, at Elgin Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald Loots officiated the service with burial in the Elgin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald Blockhus, Scott Blockhus, Milton Thomas, Kirk Shippy, Troy Shippy and Harlan Friederich.

Florence Henrietta Blockhus was born Sept. 6, 1909, in Elgin, the daughter of John and Celia (Lantz) Friederich. She was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. She attended Clayton County rural schools. On March 3, 1934, she married Severin Blockhus in Decorah. He died March 19, 1958. She lived in the Elgin area all her life. Florence Henrietta Blockhus died Sunday, Aug. 27, 1989, at her residence.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Blockhus, Elgin, Mrs. Donald (Sandra) Shippy of Waterloo; two grandchildren; a brother, John Friederich, of Guttenberg, three sisters, Mrs. Milton (Alice) Voelker, of Reinbeck, Mrs. Walt (Martha) Mitts, of Elgin, and Rose West of Elkader.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents; three sisters, Ina Rice, Ella Blockhus and Clara Friederich; and a brother Henry.
