Funeral services for Henry "Hank" Morrison McMillan, age 92, of Elgin, Iowa were held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin, Iowa. Rev. Rick Johnson officiated. Graveside military rites were held at the Elgin Cemetery with the Elgin American Legion Post participating in the service. Honorary pallbearers were Francis and Shirley Butikofer, Jack and Maggie Sloan, and Catherine "Lolly" Britt. Active pallbearers were his grandnephews Chris McMillan, Pat McMillan, Eric Morf, Matthew Molumby, Jacob Molumby, and Michael Molumby. Arden Greener was the soloist and organist was Connie Ellis.

Henry Morrison McMillan, son of Henry and Rose (Wenger) McMillan, Sr. was born December 16, 1919. He attended Lime Kiln country school through the 8th grade and graduated from the Elgin High School in 1937. Following his graduation he went to work as a farm hand. In 1940, Hank and his brother John C. McMillan went into farming together and took over their parents' land. Hank also worked for the United States Post Office from 1940 to 1981, including time in the army. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from October 31st, 1942 to December 9th, 1945. He was based in London, England, reaching the rank of sergeant. After the war he returned to Elgin and continued to work as a postal clerk. He served as postmaster in Elgin from 1949 to 1981. On June 21, 1951, Henry married Ardis Groth. They had one son, Henry Mark McMillan. After each losing their spouse, Gertrude (Otterbeck) Leete and Henry were married on June 30, 1973. After retiring from the post office in January 1981, Hank became a real estate agent and spent an increasing amount of time farming with his brother and his nephew, John Michael McMillan.

Hank was an active member of the community. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the Elgin Community Club. As a charter member of the Lion's Club (1948), he was the first President and an active participant for over 60 years. Hank was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the El Kahir Shriners. He was appointed to the board of Directors of the Elgin State Bank in 1966 and served until 2009. Henry loved his family and friends. He enjoyed the farm, the river, traveling and golf. He will be dearly missed.

Henry Morrison McMillan died March 8, 2012 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota after a brief illness. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John C. McMillan, sisters Winnifred Siamis and Elizabeth McMillan, his wife Ardis (Groth) McMillan and wife Gertrude (Otterbeck)(Leete) McMillan.

Henry is survived by his three children, Henry Mark (Robin Keller) McMillan of Corona del Mar, California, Bruce Leete of Clintonville, Wisconsin, and Bob (Ione) Leete of Hawkeye, Iowa; three grandchildren, Lisa (Lowell) Hansen of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Bill (Anne) Leete of Chicago, Illinois, and Todd Leete of Tomahawk, Wisconsin; his nieces and nephews, and their families in addition to many friends.
