George Cook
George Edward Cook, son of William and Lydia (Baumgartner) Cook, was born August 4, 1890 in Clayton County near Elkader, Iowa and died on November 17, 1976 at Palmer Memorial Hospital. He attended rural schools. He was baptized in the Apostolic Church as a youth. He was married to Miss Louise Grossman on May 5, 1914 in West Union. They made their home in Clermont with the exception of 20 years on a farm six miles east of West Union. He had been a member of the Clermont Fire Department, and was sexton of God's Acres Cemetery in Clermont.
Immediate survivors include his wife, Louise; one daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Larson of West Union, and two sons: Gerald Cook of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Robert Cook of Clermont. There are 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. There is one brother, Elmer Cook of Waterloo, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Chadwick who lived in Minnesota.
Funeral services were held in the Muehlethaler-Wright Funeral Home on Saturday, November 20, 1976 with the Rev. Byron W. Ayers, pastor of the United Methodist Church, West Union, officiating. Casketbearers were Gary Kuhens, Glenn Nygaard, Henry Nelson, Gerald Gutcher, Paul Cook and Burkard Riegel.
Burial was in God's Acres cemetery, in Clermont.
