The deceased was born in Pennsylvania July 1st 1835. She was married in 1856 to James Mettlin and they began housekeeping together near Otsego this county, in March 1857 where they had resided until last Fall when they moved to Oelwein. There union was blest with nine children. Three daughters and four sons are still living and all are residing in this vicinity except one daughter who resides in Wyoming. The funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Otsego cemetery, near where much of her life had been passed. There was a large company of sympathizing friends in attendance at the funeral services thus showing esteem and respect for one who had for many years mingled with them in their hopes and sorrows. She was a kind wile and loving mother
and after life's fitful slumber she sleeps well.
