Mass of Christian Burial services for Harold Bernard Lockwood, age 84, of Fayette, Iowa will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 25, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette, Iowa with Rev. Jim Brokman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Fayette with military rites provided by the Fayette American Legion. Becker-Milnes Funeral Service of Fayette assisted the family with the arrangements.

Harold Bernard Lockwood was born September 22, 1927 at Valentine, Nebraska to Lewis and Ann Elizabeth (Hill) Lockwood. He moved to Fayette, Iowa with his family and graduated from Fayette High School in 1945. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and with the United States Coast Guard during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring from the Coast Guard in 1970, Harold returned to the Fayette area where he worked as a substitute mail carrier. He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette and the Fayette American Legion. Among his many interests were fishing, woodworking, collecting, mushroom hunting, and watching Bonanza on television.

Harold Bernard Lockwood died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, following a lengthy battle with cancer at the home of his daughter in Sumner, Iowa where he had been living for the past eleven weeks. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harold Bernard Lockwood is survived by one son, Troy (Anne-Marie) Potter of St. Johns, Michigan, two daughters, Deborah Lockwood of West Des Moines, Iowa and Kasey (Dr. Troy) Buchholz of Sumner, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Matthew Overton, Meredith Otis, Joshua Potter, Benjamin Potter, Julia Buchholz, Lily Buchholz, and Josie Buchholz; two great-grandchildren, Hudson Otis and Kasen Otis; one brother Robert (Ruth) Lockwood of Littletown, Pennsylvania, and three sisters, Helen Scheidel of Fayette, Iowa, Mary Ann Roach of West Union, Iowa and Francis Popenhagen of Wadena, Iowa.
