Alma C. Kauten 1913-2002

KAUTEN, KERN, SCHECKEL, LOCKARD

Funeral services were held
Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, for Alma C.
Kauten, 89, who died Saturday, Oct.
26, at Hillcrest Home, Sumner,
following a brief illness.
There were 10:00 a.m. services at
Emmanuel United Methodist Church,
Maynard, with Rev. Roger White officiating.
Burial was in Greenwood
Cemetery, rural Westgate. Becker-
Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, was
in charge of the arrangements.
Alma Cecelia, daughter of John
and Barbara (Kern) Scheckel, was
born May 20, 1913, in Jefferson
Township, Iowa. She was reared in
Oelwein where she attended Sacred
Heart School and later attended Mt.
Mercy College, Cedar Rapids.
On Nov. 23, 1934, she was united
in marriage with David W. Kauten at
Murphy United Brethren Church, rural
Westgate.
Alma had been a resident of the
Westgate area since 1934, she
worked for nearly 20 years at
Wilson's Poultry Processing,
Oelwein. In 2000, she moved to
Maynard, and in September of this
year became a resident of Hillcrest
Home, Sumner.
She was a longtime member of
Murphy United Methodist Church,
rural Westgate, the Westgate Study
Club, the Sumner area Christian
Women's Club, and recently had
been a member of Emmanuel United
Methodist Church, Maynard. She also
had served on the Westgate Library
Board, as secretary of the Greenwood
Cemetery Association, and as president
of the Maynard Senior Citizens.
Survivors include one son,
William R. Kauten, Waterloo; one
daughter, Mrs. Russell (Evelyn)
Lockard, Maynard; seven grandchildren;
20 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
- She-was-preceded in death by her
husband (July 9, 1975); an infant son,
Norbert; three sisters; and three
brothers.
