William C. Uttecht 1900-1972

UTTECHT, WRAAGE, RADKE, BALZER

William C. Uttecht, 71, tavern
owner and operator at Westgate
and a veteran of service with
the German army in World War
I, died Thursday morning, Feb.
3 at Sumner Community Memorial
Hospital. His death was
attributed to -emphysema.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's
Lutheran Church, Westgate,
wiith the pastor, Rev. Lloyd A.
Bickel, officiating. Burial was
in Greenwood Cemetery northwest
of Westgate. Emerson-
Milnes Funeral Home of Sumner
was in charge of funeral
arrangements.
William Carl Uttecht was
born May 24, 1900 in Germany
the son of Fran and Wilhelmina
Maas Uttecht.
He served in the German
Army in WW I and came to the
United States in 1923 settling
in Lawler.
Mr. Uttecht moved to Chicago
in 1925 and spent twenty-five
years there.
On July 22, 1927, he married
Anna Wraage in Chicago. The
couple came back to Iowa, to
Alpha in 1944 and in 1948 moved
to the Westgate community.
After farming for three years,
the Uttechts started "Uttecht's
Tavern" in Westgate which they
still owned and operated at the
time of his death.
He is survived by his wife,
Anna; two sisters, Toni, Mrs.
Fred Radke of rural Randalia
and Mrs. Haedwig Balzer in
Germany; two brothers, Albert
Uttecht of Hawkeye and Fred
Uttecht of Germany and a nephew,
Fred Radke, Jr. of West
Dundee, Ill.
Besides his parents, he was
preceded in death by several
brothers and sisters.
