Kenneth Eugene Cowles, age 72, of Chula Vista, California, and formerly of West Union, Iowa, died on February 17, 2008 in San Diego, California. His funeral arrangements were handled by the Little Chapel of the Roses, Glen Abbey Mortuary of Chula Vista, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Park and Lulu Cowles.

Kenneth Eugene Cowles, son of Park William and Lulu L. (Miller) Cowles, was born July 2, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from the West Union, Iowa High School in 1954. He was in the military from 1954 to 1958. He took his basic training at Great Lakes, Michigan and served on the U.S.S. Prairie and the U.S.S. Brown. After being discharged from the Navy, Kenneth stayed in the San Diego area. He graduated from San Diego City College in 1975 with majors in basics and auto body. He was a logistics manager with Civil Services, retiring with 32 years of service in September of 1995 in Patuxent River, Maryland.

After retiring, Kenneth returned to Chula Vista, California in December of 1995 where he remained until his death. He was a life member of Chula Vista Elks Lodge No. 2011. He followed the NASCAR circuit for many years. He loved the San Diego Chargers and Padres, but also followed college football and basketball teams. He enjoyed snow skiing, swimming and other sports. He had the opportunity to visit all 50 states of the United States,and the provinces of Canada. He participated in a world cruise when he was in the Navy. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He never met a stranger. He will be missed by many.

Kenneth Eugene Cowles is survived by his wife, E. Pauline Cowles of Chula Vista, California; his daughter Dawn D.(John Mansfield) Cowles and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Ryan of Temecula, California; a sister, Delores (Curtis) Chensvold of Decorah, Iowa, and 3 brothers, Robert (Beverly) Cowles of Ossian, Iowa, Stanley (Donna) Cowles of Chandler, Arizona, and George (Darlene) Cowles of Elk River, Minnesota.
