Funeral services for Mabel Marie Bockholt, age 73, of Fairbank, Iowa will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home at Oelwein, Iowa with Rev. Bob Browne officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Readlyn, Iowa. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mabel Marie, daughter of Joy and Fern (Ward) Popenhagen, was born July 30, 1938 in rural Wadena, Iowa. She graduated from the Fayette High School in Fayette, Iowa in 1955. Mabel married Roy Sandhagen and they later divorced. On August 20, 1961 Mabel married Henry Duane Bockholt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mabel was a homemaker, a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at Oran, Iowa, and a member of the Red Hat Society.

Mabel Marie Bockholt died on Tuesday evening, November 29, 2011 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, H. Duane Bockholt on October 23, 1994, her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dennis Neil on September 16, 2001, her son Bruce Bockholt on June 4, 1977, her son-in-law, Jim Oberheu on May 7, 1989 and her brother Russell Popenhagen who died February 4, 2007.

Mabel is survived by her 4 daughters, Bev (Gerald) Buhrow of Readlyn, Iowa, Becky (Joe Tiedt) Siggelkov of Sumner, Iowa, Judy (Duane) Henie of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jackie Gildard of Denver, Iowa; her 3 sons, Brian (Laura) Bockholt of Readlyn, Iowa, Jeff Bockholt of Oran, Iowa, Rob (Christy) Bockholt of Sarasota, Florida; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Shirley (Norman) Kleinlein of Arlington, Iowa, Dora (Jerry) Bartels of Oelwein, Iowa, a brother Harold (Leone) Popenhagen of Wadena, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Fran Popenhagen of Wadena, Iowa, many nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Romaine "Bud" Schaefer of Waverly, Iowa.
