The funeral of Henry R. Niles,
pioneer and longtime resident of
Bethel township, who died March 25
as a result of a flu attack, was held
at Greeley, Colo., the following Tuesday.
Burial was at Fort Morgan, Colo.,
says the Hawkeye Beacon .
Henry R. Niles, who was born at
Aburg Springs, Vt., Nov. 2, 1847, was
the youngest of a family of eight
children.
He was married to Jennie Glasgow
Dec, 25, 1877. The young couple come
to Iowa the following year and settled
on the Niles homestead in Bethel
township.
Mr, Niles continued his chosen work
as a farmer even after going to Colorado
in 1909 where he operated his
own farm until the last few years.
Seven children were born to Mr. and
Mrs. Niles, four of whom survive.
The survivors are two daughters
and two sons: Mrs. C. A, Mitchell and
Rex Niles of Hawkeye, Henry and
Gertrude Niles of Orchard, Colo; fifteen
grandchildren and four great grandchildrenSumner Gazette - 13 April 1933
