Mrs. Peter H. Cummings Called To Her Reward

The sad news was received here Saturday morning, January 28th, that Mrs. P. H. Cummings of Clermont had passed away at the Mayo Brothers Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, where she had gone the previous Tuesday for a cancer operation.

Mary Cole was born in Postville, Iowa, March 1st, 1866. She received her education and was graduated from the public schools of Postville. In 1892 she was united in marriage to Peter Cummings of Clermont and to this union one child was born, John, residing at home.

Mrs. Cummings was a true christian woman, a devout member of the Catholic church, a most devoted wife and tender loving mother. During her long and lingering illness she showed great patience and fortitude and her loss to the community will be greatly felt.

A touching tribute to the character of Mrs. Cummings were the beautiful floral offerings and the host of people who attended her funeral.

Besides her grief-stricken husband and son she leaves to mourn her loss one brother, William Cole of McGregor. Another brother, John, preceded her in death about ten years ago.

The sincerest sympathy of everyone in the community goes out to her family.

Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Clermont, Rev. Father J. J. Hehir officiating.

Those present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. William Cole, McGregor; Eugene McCue of West Union; Mrs. T. H. Foley, Waukon; Morris Calahan, Cedar Rapids; Dan McNeil, Postville; John Powers, Postville.
