Ruth Earle, 96, West Union, Iowa, formerly of Guttenberg, Iowa, died Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Stoney Brook Village, West Union, Iowa. Ruth was born on July 6, 1915, near West Union, Iowa, to Harry W. and Nettie (Appleman) Bishop, in their farm home. She was the youngest of six children; Catharine, Clifford, Lewis, Clyde and Marion, all are deceased.

She attended the rural schools of Fayette Co., through 8th grade and attended the West Union High School. She received further education at Upper Iowa University. She taught school in Dover Township, as well as in Winneshiek, Linn and Clayton Co. She taught for 42 years, 19 of which were in Guttenberg Community.

Ruth married Merville G. Earle on September 16, 1944. They were a few days short of being married 54 years when he passed away on September 3, 1998.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a good wife, sister, aunt, teacher and friend. She will be missed by many.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in West Union, Iowa. The Rev. Scott Kober will officiate.

Burial will be held at the Grandview Cemetery in Fayette, Iowa.

Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church on Monday, August 29, 2011.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
