Funeral services for Clarence F. Thies, age 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and formerly of West Union, Iowa were held Tuesday, April 30 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union with burial in the West Union Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Fredrich Carl Thies, son of George Fredrich John and Louisa Charlotte (Fangmeier) Thies, was born December 8, 1906 in Clayton County, Iowa. He was confirmed at Luana, Iowa. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church from 1943 to 1966 and St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, from 1966 until his death. He was united in marriage November 10, 1933 to Matilda Louise Ash. They had five children. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1963. Clarence worked at Coe College as assistant supervisor of the maintenance department, a position that he retired from in 1983.

Clarence Fredrich Carl Thies died Saturday, April 27, 1990 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leslie Thies, and two sisters, Adeline Nordhus, and Ruth Perry.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Matilda; 2 sons, Carl Thies of Chicago, Illinois and Roger Thies of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 3 daughters, Marian Tupper of West Union, Iowa, Betty Redmond of Sheffield, Illinois and Julie Taylor of Center Point, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother George Thies of Evansdale, Iowa.
