Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for James Lawrence Nesvik of West Union, Iowa were held at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa on November 10 with Rev. Dennis Veen Kant officiating. Burnham and Wood Funeral Home of West Union, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in the West Union, Iowa Cemetery. Casket bearers were fellow Interstate Power Company employees, Merlin Dunt, Darwin Smith, Eugene Hruska, Bob Ostert, Bob Kudrna, and Scott Stahr. Honorary pallbearers were his other fellow Interstate Power Company employees.
James Lawrence Nesvik, son of Clarence J. and Mabel (Wagner) Nesvik, was born on December 23, 1931 in Dover Township, Fayette County, Iowa. Jim was baptized in 1932 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa. He was confirmed there in 1944. He graduated from the West Union High School in 1950. He attended college for two years. Jim served in the United States Infantry in Korea from March 1951 to March 1954. During his military services he was awarded the Purple Heart. On June 27, 1954 he was married to Justine "Tuffy" Sturch. They are the parents of two children. Jim was a Boy Scout Leader, Little League Coach, a past member of the West Union City Council, a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church. Jim was an employee of Interstate Power Company for many years.
Jim died on November 7, 1990 at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Nesvik.
He is survived by his wife, Justine; daughter Stacy (Daniel) Rike of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Eric Nesvik of West Union, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 3 brothers, John Nesvik of Casper, Wyoming, Richard Nesvik of Waterloo, Iowa, and Allen Nesvik of Cedar Falls, Iowa in addition to nieces, nephews, and many friends.
