Minnie Vyverberg Gremmels
was born July 2, 1862, in Dubuque
County, Iowa. She was the
third child of a family of nine
children, and was baptized in the
Presbyterian Church at Sherrill,
Iowa, in her early childhood.
At the age of nine years, she
moved with her family to Charles
City, Ia_
In 1881 she was married at
Charles City to Henry Gremmels
of Dubuque County. Their first
residence was on a farm in Palo
Alto County, near Emmetsburg,
Iowa, at which place two daughters
were born, Florence, Mrs.
R. E. Lawther, and Myrtie, Mrs.
G. N. Wassom.
From the farm, they moved to
Emmetsburg where they lived
eight years, and in 1897 moved to
Oelwein, residing here until her
death on May 4, 1944.
She is survived by her husband,
Henry Gremmels, two daughters
of Oelwein, three grandchildren,
Evelyn Mock, Georgia Belle Pingel,
Anne Wassom, and two great
grandchildren, Sandra Ann Mock
and Patricia Rae Pinfel.
Three sisters, Mrs. A. K. Pay,
Sioux Falls, S. Dak., Mrs. Charles
Mahan, Baltimore, Md., Mrs.
Helen Gibson, Hollywood, Calif.,
and one brother, Charles Gremmels,
Sioux Falls, S. Dak.
She was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Oelvein
and Oelwein Chapter, No. 45, O.
E. S. She was a devoted wife
and mother. Her home and her
church were the chief interest of
her life. She. attended the service
of her church the Sunday
preceding her passing. Had Mrs.
Gremmels lived until July 2,' she
would have been 82 years of age,
and on Sept. 20 they would have
celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Funeral services were held at
the Presbyterian church of Oelwein
Saturday, May 6, 1944. Rev. Jean Hauter
of Cedar Rapids, Iowa officiating with
