Funeral service for Carrie A. Lembke Nelson were held Wednesday, August 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elgin Lutheran Church in Elgin, Iowa. Rev. Harold R. McMullin, Jr. officiated. Burial was in the Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin, Iowa. Casket bearers were Kevin Lembke, Loren Lembke, Les Amundson, Brett Lembke, Nathan Lembke, and Darin Mahlow.

Carrie Ann, daughter of Fred and Stella (Stone) Kraus, was born June 7, 1913 at Littleport, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, Iowa. She was presently a member of the Elgin Lutheran Church. Carrie attended rural school in the Clayton County area. She was engaged most of her life in farming and built her life around her children and grandchildren.

Carrie was married to Elmer Lembke on February 18, 1933. From this marriage five children were born. Elmer died on December 31, 1966. On August 8, 1970 she married Milton Nelson. They lived east of Monona, Iowa for eighteen years. They moved to Waukon, Iowa and had resided there the past three years. Milton died April 12, 1991.

After a massive stroke, Carrie died Sunday August 25, 1991 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, and her parents.

Carrie is survived by 3 sons, Earl (Bonnie) Lembke of Elkader, Iowa, Karl (Eloise) Lembke of Plano, Texas, and Leslie Lembke of Elgin, Iowa; 2 daughters, Judy (Don) Mahlow of State Center, Iowa and Wanda (Tracey) Lambert of Overland Park, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Frieda Miller of Elkader, Iowa and Leona Schmidt of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; 3 brothers, Harvey Kraus of Volga, Iowa, Lawrence Kraus of Chicago, Illinois, and Raymond Kraus of Elkport, Iowa; and 14 nieces and nephews.
