Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Ross Davisson were held Friday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald Loots officiated. Military rites were performed by the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post #375 of Clermont, Iowa. Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont, Iowa was in charge of arrangements Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa. Casket bearers were Jason Grimm, Jason Dietz, Tim Lewis, Jeff Davisson, Everett Rowland, and Charles Wagner. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Broghammer, Allen Johnson, and Robert Dietz.
Ross Junior Davisson, the fourth child of Ross Armstrong and Jennie (Walton) Davisson, was born April 11, 1926 near Wellman, Iowa. He was baptized April 11, 1927 in the First Christian Church at Kinross, Iowa and confirmed January 18, 1955 in St. John Lutheran Church, Lytton, Iowa. He graduated from Kinross High School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving during World War II. Upon his return from military service, he graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. From college graduation through his retirement in 1980, he was employed in the Iowa Public School System . From 1979 to 1980 he had served as High School Principal at Valley Community Schools of Elgin-Clermont-Wadena.
On June 19, 1955 he married Darlene Ruth Meyer at Lytton, Iowa. They were the parents of 3 children, Dianne, Clendon, and Loree. Darlene died in 1963. On June 12, 1971 he married Arline Martha Wieczorek at Sioux City, Iowa. They were the parents of Clinton and twin daughters, Jeanette and Jennifer. They have lived in Clermont, Iowa for the past 12 years. He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and had also been a member of the High School Principals Association and the Coaches Association.
He died Wednesday, June 26, 1991 in the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Darlene, who died April 15, 1963, their son Clendon Davisson, a brother Harley Davisson, and a sister, Verda Groff.
Ross is survived by his wife, Arline, one son Clinton Davisson; 4 daughters, Dianne (Bruce) Harms of Iowa City, Iowa, Loree (Bill) Broghammer of Wilton, Iowa, Jennifer Davisson, and Jeanette Davisson of Clermont, Iowa; 2 brothers, Donald Davisson of Riverside, Iowa and Aubrey Davisson of Marion, Iowa.
