Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 25 for Ruby Freier, age 86, at the Clermont Funeral Chapel in Clermont, Iowa at 11 a.m. Rev. E. Raymond Sims will conduct the services. Internment will be in God's Acres Cemetery in Clermont, Iowa with Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont, Iowa handling the arrangements.

Ruby was born September 12, 1903 in Milbank, South Dakota to Bert and Emma (Sphar) Henderson. She grew up on a farm near Clermont, Iowa. She graduated from Clermont High School and in 1939 she received a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught physical education in Stuttgart, Arkansas and was the health and physical education director at YWCAs in Cedar Rapids Iowa, Waterloo, Iowa, and Chicago, Illinois. Over the past 40 years she owned and operated farms in Lyon and Fayette Counties in Iowa. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Farm Bureau, and St. Luke Episcopal Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Ruby died Tuesday, August 14, 1990 at the Aase Haugen Retirement Center in Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her three husbands, John Dempster, Dr. C.C. Grant, and August Freier; a brother Roger Henderson, and 2 sisters, Helen Gruver and Dorothy Moyle.

Ruby is survived by a daughter, Sarah Lopez of Hawkeye, Iowa; a son, John Dempster of Rockford, Illinois; 4 grandchildren and a great-grandson; a brother James Henderson of Clermont, Iowa; and 3 sisters, Cora Palmer of Waukon, Iowa, Charlotte (Rollie) Roggensack of Lancaster, Wisconsin, and Joyce (Frank) Petty of Eldora, Iowa.
