Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for John C. McMillan were held Tuesday, January 14, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin, Iowa. Rev. Richard Kretzchmar officiated. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Dummermuth, Riley Grimes, Harry Cline, John Schaer, Herman Helgerson, and Milt Miller. Casket bearers were Don Fauser, Michael Cline, Randy Reierson, Jeff Cline, Kim Dummermuth and Rick Schott. Muehlethaler Funeral Home of Elgin, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
John C. McMillan was born July 10, 1921 near Elgin, Iowa to Henry and Rose (Wenger) McMillan. He was raised and educated in the area attending rural school. He later graduated from the Elgin High School. John was married on August 28, 1948 to Evelyn Hoefer at Minneapolis, Minnesota. Four children were born to this union. For over fifty-two years John farmed in partnership with his brother, Henry "Hank" McMillan. For the past five years John and Evelyn have resided in Elgin. After an extended illness, John died Saturday afternoon, January 11, 1992 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. He was seventy years of age. John was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as one who loved his family, taking a quiet pride in them, and enjoyed farming, fishing, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and a half sister, Hazel Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, 2 sons John (Kathy) McMillan of Elgin, Iowa, Jeffrey (Karen) McMillan of Columbia, Missouri, 2 daughters, Cindy Morf of Marshalltown, Iowa and Cathy (John) Molumby of Monona, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; his brother Henry (Gert) McMillan of Elgin, Iowa and 2 sisters, Elizabeth McMillan of Marion, Iowa and Winnefred (Tom) Siamis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
