Doris L. Howard died Sunday, July 5, 1987 at the age of 65.

Funeral services were held July 9, at 11 a.m. at the Elgin Lutheran Church. Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Interment was in the Elgin cemetery. Muehlethaler Funeral Home, Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Doris L. Howard, daughter of Harold and Helen (Nelson) Landsgard, was born in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa August 28, 1921. She was baptized at the Marion Lutheran Church and confirmed at West Clermont Lutheran. She attended the Clermont schools and Luther College at Decorah.

She married Robert T. Howard on January 29, 1942 in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. They lived for a short time at West Union, then moved to DeKalb, IL. where they entered in a partnership in the DeKalb Toy and Novelty Company. At this time Doris was employed as personnel director at the Diamond Wire Company. They lived in the DeKalb area for 22 years.

Selling their interest in the Toy and Novelty Co., they moved to Monroe, MI where they owned and operated the Culligan Water Conditioning Co. for 20 years. They sold the business and retired in 1984.

Doris was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and her hobbies were reading and traveling. She especially enjoyed her trips back to Iowa. She was active in the Lutheran Church where she taught and served on various committees.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Robert, who died October 17, 1984.

Survivors include an aunt, Hulda Lindley, Osage; sister-in-law, Alice Howard, Elgin, 3 nieces, a nephew and many cousins and friends.

Casket bearers were Maurice Landsgard, Roger Howard, Donald Dominy, Donald Bodensteiner, Kenneth Strong and Orlando Lindley.

Honorary bearers were Emery Landsgard, Donald Houg, Orian Landsgard, Burdette Wold, Gordon Landsgard.
