Funeral services were held Monday, November 15 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa for Leonard F. Heins, age 71, of Elgin, Iowa. Rev. Arley Ellingson officiated. Interment was at the Elgin Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ryan Cummings, Chris Cummings, Jeff Abler, Mike Heins, Brad Jermeland, and Bruce Jermeland. Arrangements were handled by Leonard Funeral Home in Elgin, Iowa.

Leonard Frederick Heins was born December 13, 1927 in Postville, Iowa to Victor and Mabel (Grotegut) Heins. He graduated from the Waukon High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Howard on August 6, 1950. Together they raised three daughters. Throughout his life, Leonard farmed, worked for Elsheimer Meat Company, was a car salesman, an artificial inseminator and an independent milk hauler. He retired in 1990.

Leonard died on November 11, 1990 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; 3 daughters, Lenna (Tom) Cummings, Mary (Lee) Thoma, both of Elgin, Iowa, and Luann (Dennis) Langley of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Amy Abler, Ryan Cummings, and Chris Cummings; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elaine (Ted) Jermeland and 1 brother, Robert (Darlene) Heins, both of West Union, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
