OELWEIN - Huston T. Smith, 93,formerly of 10
Eighth Ave. NW, Oelwein, died Tuesday, July 6, at the Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 10, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein
with the Rev. Cyndi Bye officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery in Hazleton.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence, Oelwein, and Frank, Hazieton; one daughter, Eunice Cook,
Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a brother, John, Edgewood.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Helen, Nov. 9,1984; a son, Carl; three
great-grandchildren; his parents; for
brothers, Wayne, Ernest, Winsey and
George; and five sisters, Ida,
Margaret, Iowa, Haddie and a sister in
infancy.
He was born Sept. 5,1899, in Elkport,
the son of Sam and May Hansel Smith.
He married Helen M. Franks, Feb. 24,
1923, in Guttenberg. He was a resident
of Oelwein since 1938.
He worked for the Chicago Great
Western Railroad for five years and
then Rath Packing in Waterloo for 20
years, retiring in 1965. He had been a
resident of the Oelwein Health Care
Center since Oct. 30, 1981. He was a
member of Zion American Lutheran
Church.
