Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13 at 11 a.m. at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa for Gordon Neil Meyer. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Gordon Neil Meyer, age 79, of Postville, Iowa died Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, following a brief illness. Gordon was born August 3, 1930 in West Union, Iowa to Vernon and Leonora (Nesvik) Meyer. He graduated from the Clermont, Iowa High School. Gordon was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Anfinson on June 16, 1957 in West Union, Iowa. Three children were born to this marriage. Gordon was later married to Marlene "Molly" Habhab for many years.

He served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He worked for the Iowa Highway Patrol as a State Trooper. He ran the Redfield Hardware Store in Redfield, Iowa and later worked at the Redfield Post Office. After moving to Postville, Iowa he was employed by Louis Schutte and Sons. He then did maintenance service work at the Community Memorial Hospital.

Gordon was a kind and gentle man who had a great talent for woodworking. He was known for making beautiful furniture, often without a printed plan. He will also be missed for his ability to solve mechanical problems and could fix anything.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his three children, Lisa (Neal) Brainard of German Valley, Illinois, Gretchen Meyer (Steve Schuman) of Ames, Iowa, and Alan (Colleen) Meyer of Scottsdale, Arizona; 5 grandchildren, Travis (Tondalaya) Brainard, Troy Brainard, Stephanie Brainard, Carlee Meyer, Lindsey Meyer, one step-great granddaughter, Caitlin Minton; and 1 sister, Sally (Lavern) Stumme.
