OELWEIN - Emma Susan Pettit, 104, died Saturday, Feb. 28, at
Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 4, at Grace
United Methodist Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Carroll Brown and
the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating.
Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in
Fayette.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m.,
Wednesday, March 3, at Geilenfeld Funeral
Home.
She was born Jan. 12, 1900, on the family
farm near Manchester, the daughter of
Charlie H. and Edna E. (Whitcomb) Carlton.
She married Willie Pettit, May 4, 1915, in
Fayette.
She is survived by two sons, William and
John, both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters,
Leona Speed, Oelwein, and LaVon Speed, Wellston, Okla.; 29
grandchildren; 92 great-grandchildren; 128 great-great-grandchildren;
six great-great-great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Edward, Frank
and David; a sister; four brothers; three grandsons; and two great granddaughters.Oelwein Daily Register - 1 Mar 2004
