Funeral services for LaVerne Hyde were held Monday, October 27, 1997 at 11
a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, IA. The Reverend Joseph Nesheim officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Gods Acre Cemetery at Clermont.

LaVerne Cecil "Red" Hyde, the son of George and Pearl (Becker) Hyde, was born October 20, 1914 at Osterdock, IA. He passed away Friday, October 24, 1997 in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, IA. He had reached the age of 83 years and four days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. When LaVerne was four years old, the family moved to a farm in the Elgin area. He attended the rural school near his home. On May 20, 1939 he was united in marriage with Dawn Arlene Swale. To this union two children were born, Gary and Gloria. In 1985 the couple retired and moved to their present home in Clermont.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Carolyn Lynn Hyde and two brothers, Woodrow and Loran.

Surviving are his wife Dawn; a son, Gary (Glenda) Hyde of Cedar Rapids, IA; and a daughter Gloria (Duane) Barker of Elgin, IA; three grandchildren, Connie (Michael) Trosky of Cedar Rapids, IA; Rebecca (Steve) Andersen of Atkins, IA and Gregg Barker of Woodbury, MN; three great grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Trosky and Nicholas Andersen; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Hyde of Clermont, IA and Marion Swale of Hawkeye, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

LaVerne was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church. "Red" loved to visit with both the young and the old, and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and family. Both LaVerne and Dawn enjoyed fishing and being at their trailer in Prairie du Chien.

The casket bearers were Jerry Hyde, Tom Swale, Dean Hyde, Colin Pinney, Paul Pinney and Gary Hilden.
