Funeral services for James A. Henderson, Clermont, Iowa, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 15 at West Clermont Lutheran Church. The Rev. Roger Peterson officiated. Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa with Schutte Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. James A. Henderson died Saturday, September 12, 1998 in Fayette County, Iowa. Casket bearers were James Ramnes, Douglas Appelman, Ralph Henderson, Jeff Wood, Greg Palmer, and Paul Nevanen.

James was born August 30, 1914 near Castalia, Iowa in Clermont Township, Fayette County, Iowa to Bert and Emma (Sphar) Henderson. He attended Clermont Public School and graduated from the Waukon High School. After graduating, he farmed with his father. On December 28, 1938 Jim married Thelma Reierson at the Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. They lived on the family farm near Castalia. Their son Bert joined the operation in 1964 and in 1987 Jim and Thelma moved to Clermont. He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont where he had served on the church council. Jim also served on the Valley Cooperative Board, the Rural Fire Board and was a member of the Republican Central Committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Roger Henderson, 4 sisters, Helen Gruver, Charlotte Roggensack, Ruby Freier, and Dorothy Moyle.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, a daughter, Helen (David) Ramnes of International Falls, Minnesota, a son Bert (Zelpha) Henderson of rural Castalia, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Cora Palmer of Waukon, Iowa and Joyce Petty of West Union, Iowa.
