Contributor: Connie Ellis (not related)Richard E. Howell, age 61, of Camanche, Iowa and formerly of Oelwein, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 1994 at Samaritan North Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services are at 8 p.m. June 6 at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa. The Rev. Horst Hehr of Samaritan Healthy Systems will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein, Iowa at a later date.
Richard was born March 31, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Vern and Alice (Blakely) Howell. He married Johnette Williams on April 18, 1994 in Clinton, Iowa. He was a machinist for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He was a graduate of Lyons High School. He was a Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Angie Howell of Rolla, Missouri; 2 sons, Luke Howell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and David Howell, in the Air Force stationed in Alaska; a step-daughter, Denise Howell, of the Air Force in Alaska; 2 step-sons, Christopher Van Laningham of Oelwein, Iowa and Richard Van Laningham of Alaska; 6 grandchildren; 2 half-sisters, Joan Phelps of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Arlene Harper of California; 2 step-sisters, Selma Gunderson of Clinton, Iowa and Grace Rash of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
