Fayette Man Passes Away Friday

Fayette, Feb. 18- Joseph Thomas Newcomer died at his home in west part of town about 8 o'clock Friday evening, Feb. 14, 1913, after a few weeks illness of heart trouble. He was the youngest of fourteen children, was born near Freepot, Ill., July 3, 1848. His parents, Philip and Elizabeth Newcomer, came in 1857 fo Fayette, where Joseph has since made his home. His father died in 1865 and his mother a few years later. He was married to Mrs. Amanda Moody, Nov. 17, 1886. She died July 9, 1889, since which time his sister, Miss Sarah, remained in the home until her death Feb. 10, 1907, on her sixtieth birthday. He has been living alone up to the time of his illness, then his relatives have taken care of him. The only surviving member of his fathers's family is his sister, Mrs. Anna Wheeler of Denver, who is in poor health and could not be here. In his young manhood he worked at farming, but for thirty years or more has been working at his trade as mason. The funeral was held from the Congregational church Sunday afternoon, Feb. 16, conducted by Rev. Charles N. Sinnett. The casket was borne by H.D. Simar, C.H. Hoyt, F.S. Walker, E.B. Scobey, Peter Graf and Frank Swatley. The relatives from out of town present at the funeral were niece, Mrs. Aaron Jones of Dickens, Iowa, his nephew, E.E. Kelly and wife and three children from Wadena, Mrs. Newcomer's two daughters, Mrs. Lon Borlund and husband of Oelwein, and Mrs. Hattie Borlund of Spring Valley, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Schroyer of West Union; Mr. and Mrs. John Hastings of Lima; Mrs. Bessie Smith of Jesup, and Charles Holmes of Donnan.
