- Francis Marion Cammack, son of William and Elizabeth
Bennett Cammack was born in Green County, Wisconsin
March 20th 1844. He was the third child of a family of
nine children, four of whom now survive him, three sisters
Miss Martha I. Cammack, Mrs. James McGee, Mrs. L. E. Hayes
all of Whittier and one brother Samuel Cammack of
Arlington, Iowa.
- In August 1864 he enlisted in the service of Co. B 42nd
Wisconsin Vol. Infantry and served until the cessation of
hostilities, being mustered out July 30, 1865. He was
married in Sauk Co., town of Fairfield to Miss Addie A.
Hildreth, daughter of of Johnathon Hildreth, her death
occuring April 12, 18??.
- Of this union three sons were born of whom Frank A.
Cammack is the only one now living. His second marriage
occurred July 11, 1878 in Sauk County, Wisconsin to Miss
Nancy Jane Davis, daughter of Simon Davis. Her death
occurring June 27th 1917. Of this union three children
were born, two daughters, one son Fred H. Cammack of
North Whittier Heights who survives. October 22nd 1919
he married Mrs. Finnitte Stansbary of West Union, Iowa,
her death occuring February 27, 1925.
- Mr. Cammack was a life long member of the Odd Fellows
being a member I. O. O. F. 58 years (Charter member of
Oelwein Lodge) No. 294 of Oelwein, Iowa. Also a member
of the local Rebeckah Lodge of Whittier. Also a member of
Rosencrans Post No. 182 Grand Army of the Republic and a
former member of the Elks of Whittier. In Iowa he was a
well known and respected citizen, having served one term as
Mayor of Oelwein and several terms as City Commissioner, as
well as Peace officer and Justice of the Peace. Since
moving to California 21 years ago, he had made a host of
friends, but lead a more quiet and retired life. He passed on
as he had wished, peacefully and quietly at his home, Friday
the 16th and leaves behind to miss him, his three sisters and
one brother and their families, two sons and their families
consisting of two grandsons, one grandaughter and one great
grandson, besides his friends and Army comrades. His last
days were filled with thoughts of consideration for his loved
ones and friends and in passing we have lost a loving father, a
loyal comrade and an old friend and brother.Oelwein Daily Register - 24 Nov 1928
