Oelwein Daily Register - 20 Sept 1930

- Elijah Bond was born in Devonshire,
England April 22, 1846. He was the
son of Thomas and Jane Bond and moved
with them to America when ten years of
age, settling near Bloomingdale, Illinois.
He lived with his parents until he enlisted
in the Civil War, from which, after two
years of service, he was honorably discharged
on December 15, 1865. He then returned
to Bloomingdale after his discharge and
there learned the blacksmithing business.
On January 12, 1871 he was united in marriage
to Arabelle Skinner, and had he been permitted
only four months of live they would have had
60 years of married life together. They settled
in Bloomingdale, where they remained 11 years
and in 1882 came to Iowa, settling in Fremont
township, Fayette county. There they remained
until moving to Oelwein eleven years ago.
