Carol Jean House

Carol Jean House, 79, West Union, Iowa, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. She was born on July 30, 1931, in West Union, Iowa, to Claude and Iva (Butler) Brause. As a life-long resident, she was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa, in 1943. She graduated from West Union High School in 1948.

Carol was united in marriage to Darrell House on February 10, 1951, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Carol was employed as a baker at the Town House Cafe for 22 years making homemade cinnamon rolls and pies.

Survivors include her two sons, Dave (Peg) House, West Union, Tom House, Monhegan Island, Maine; one daughter, Nancy (Marty) Stanbrough, Fayette; two grandchildren, Joshua (Jeni) House, Baraboo, WI, Janessa (Josh Robert) Griffith, Verona, WI; one great-grandson, Holden Griffith, one sister, Dolly Herwig, West Union, and two sisters-in-law, Sara Brause and Marilyn Klatt, both of West Union.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Harry Brause, her sister, Nancy A. Murphy, and her husband, Darrell House in 1991.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the West Union Cemetery in West Union, Iowa. The Rev. Galen Smith will officiate.

Family and friends are invited to the West Union Meal Site following the graveside services for a time of fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials sent to Heart of Iowa Hospice.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
