DIED.—At his home in this city last
Thursday, after a lingering illness,
Mr. Jesse Hough, aged 54 years. The
deceased was a native of Canada, being
born there in 1838, but had been a
resident of Fayette county for the past
thirty-five years, living in Oran township
until 1876 when himself and"family
moved to Oelwein, where he has
since resided, until his death. For the
past three years he had been in the
employ of the Kansas City railroad at
this place. He leaves a wife and one
child to mourn his loss besides a large
circle of friends. The funeral services
were conducted at the family residence
on Jefferson street Saturday forenoon,
Rev. Krotzer, of the Presbyterian
church officiating, after which the remains
were conveyed to their final and
quiet resting place in the cemetery,
where they were interred under the
auspices of the G. A. R. of which organization
he was formerly a member.
There was a large attendance of sympathizing
friends. The floral offerings
were many and beautiful, his associates
at the Kansas City depot furnishing a
very handsome design in the shape of
a large Maple Leaf, the emblem of
the road, with the word "Jesse" in
blue letters across the center.Oelwein Register - 9 June 1892
