Mrs. Julian Shadle

Gertrude Mae Luther was born
August 8, 1884 at Arlington, the
daughter of Wyman and Lillie Dana
Luther. On September 30, 1901
She married Julian A. Shadle at
Oelwein. After spending the greater
part of her life at Oelwein, she and
her husband moved to Maynard
three years ago.

She was a charter member of the
First Christian church in Oelwein.
For many years she served as pres-
Ident of the Women’s Missionary
Society and the superintendent of
the Beginner’s Department. She
also held office in the Ladies Aid
Society and the Berean Sunday
School Class.

Surviving besides her husband,
Julian A. Shadle are one son, George A.
Shadle of Maynard and one daughter,
Mrs. Paul Bockensten of Colorado
Springs, Colorado: five grandchildren;
one brother, Hugh Luther and one
sister, Mrs. Joe Hunter, both of Oelwein.
A brother, Guy Luther, preceded her
in death.

On Nov. 19, she was taken to State
University Hospital in Iowa City where
she died on Dec. 11. Services were held
Monday, Dec. 15 at First Christian church
with the Rev. Chester Ainsworth of
Cedar Rapids, a nephew of the deceased,
officiating. The Rev. Ainsworth was
assisted by the Rev. LaVerne Erwin.
Burial was in Woodlawn.
