Leander L. Adams 1834-1905 Civil War Veteran

Leander L. Adams was born in Mansfield, Cattarangus
county, New York, January 18, 1834 and died in
Maynard, Iowa, July 22, 1905, aged 71 years, 6 months
and 4 days.
.Leaving his native state he went to Wisconsin and
from that place to California in 1856. After two years
he returned to Iowa and the following years went to
Illinois.
-On the 15th of August 1852, he enlisted in Company
B 75th Illinois Infantry and was assigned to duty with
the army of Tennessee, participating in the battle of
Perryville, Ky., and then with his regiment went to
Nashville Tennessee. He then enlisted in the first
Mississippi Marine Brigade and was in the battles of
Duck Creek, on the Tennessee, Goodrich Landing,
Richmond, Arkansas, the siege of Vicksburg and Fort
De Russa, and the battles of Grand Gulf and Haines
Bluff. During service in the Marine Brigade he traveled
many thousands of mines on the father of waters and
its tributaries and experienced some trying and exciting
times. On receiving his discharge from the service Mr.
Adams returned to Illinois. For two years he was employed
on the Mississippi and on the first of January 1867
arrived in Maynard where he has since resided.
-On February 7, 1869 he was united in marriage with Miss
Rebecca Cline. Four children were born to this marriage,
all of whom are living; Ida A., now the widow of Irving Miner,
Mrs. Nettie Kiel, Mrs. Stella Talcott and Henry L.
-The services were held at the home Sunday afternoon,
July 23rd., Rev. Young officiating. Miss Genevieve Lewis
rendered a solo, words and music of which were composed
by Mr. Adam's mother.
