Caroline Moritz 1860-1946

Caroline Moritz, daughter of Margaret
(Wegner) and Gottlieb Klavitter, was born
on October 14, 1860. at Posen, Germany.
She was baptized, and later confirmed in
the Evangelical Lutheran faith. When a
girl of twelve, she emigrated to the
United States. On Nov. 13, 1884 she was
married to Simon Moritz at Independence,
Iowa. To this union 11 children were born,
one of which died in infancy.
The oldest daughter, Mrs. Dora Zummack
passed away June 24, 1941.
Mr. and Mrs. Morltz began housekeeping
on a farm at Littleton, Iowa where they
remained until the spring of 1901, when
they moved to a farm in Westburg township,
Buchanan county, where Mr. Moritz passed
away on May 22, 1905. The family resided
on the farm until the year 1911 when they
moved to Independence, Iowa. In 1938
Mrs. Moritz quit housekeeping and made
her home with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie
Henderson until the time of her passing.
The departed's health had been fairly good
until July 31 when she had the misfortune
of falling and breaking her hip. She was
taken to the hospital and placed in a
cast . On Sept. 30, she was brought home
home to her daughter, Mrs. Henderson.
All that was humanly possible< was done for
her. Her daughter faithfully ministered to
her mother through out these years.
The misfortune of breaking her hip caused
her to grow weaker, and on Monday,
October 7, 1946, she peacefully fell
asleep.
Funeral services were held at the
Henderson home at Maynard on
Thursday, October 10, 1946 and
at the Immanuel Lutheran Church,
Independence, Iowa, Rev. H. F. Hein,
pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church,
Maynard, Iowa, officiated. Interment in
the Littleton, Iowa cemetery.
