Daryl Dean Sampson

Daryl Dean Sampson, 80, Castalia, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, Iowa, following a brief illness. Daryl was born on October 29, 1930, rural Castalia, Iowa, to Millard and Elsie (Schweinefus) Sampson. He was baptized on November 12, 1930, and confirmed on March 25, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, Iowa. Daryl attended country school near Castalia, Iowa, and Clermont High School, Clermont, Iowa.

Daryl was united in marriage to Gladys Becker on May 26, 1964, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. One son, Dean, was born to this union. Daryl and Gladys farmed their entire married life on the family farm. Daryl always looked forward to spring, when he could start the planting season of oats and corn. His crops were always the first to be planted and the first to be harvested. Daryl will be greatly missed by his many family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Sampson, Castalia; his son, Dean Sampson, Castalia; three sisters-in-law, Helen Everman, Postville, Margenelle Moeller, Monona, Jeanette Walch, Luana and a host of other family and friends.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Elsie Sampson; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Amanda (Doerring) Becker; one brother, Wayne Sampson; one sister-in-law, Ivanelle Kuhse and four brothers-in-law, Lorenz Kuhse, Lloyd Everman, Orlando Moeller and Ewald Walch.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 10 a.m. at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Pastor Rusty Phillips will officiate.

Inurnment will be held at Pleasantview Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa, at a later date.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at the Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
