Alice Loretta Devolt was born near Lincoln, Nebraska,
September 10, 1873~ and died at her home near
Stanley July 6, 1912. She was married to George Brooks
October 19, 1908 and since that time has resided on
their farm home near Stanley. She was converted in her
childhood days and united with the M. E. church in which
church she lived an active Christian life until the time of
her death. She spent her early life in Nebraska, until the
death of her mother in 1896, when she came to Iowa,
where she engaged in teaching school till 1898 when she
went to Rockford, Ill. and taught in the public schools of
that city until the time of her marriage to Mr. Brooks.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, her father Arthur
Devolt of Fayette, two brothers, Arthur of Fayette , William
Arkland of Tenton Falls, New York and one sister, Mrs. Eva Bly
of Stillman Valley, Ill. The funeral took place from the M. E.
church July 8 and was conducted by Rev. H. Foote. a former
pastor, assisted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, the present pastor. The
esteem in when she was held was evinced by the large company
of people who assembled to pay their last tribute of respect.
She was laid to rest in the Stanley cemetery. Those from abroad
who were here to attend the funeral were Mrs. Curtman of New
York, Mrs. E. A. Bowman and daughter, Mrs. E. Goodsell of Des
Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Bly of Stillman Valley, Ill. Mr. Brooks has
the sympathy of the entire community in this his sad
