Obituary ~ William Allen DeVolt was born in Morrow
county, Ohio, January 28, 1844 and died in Fayette
county, Iowa, August 25, 1912. He came with his
parents to Illinois in 1858, where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Salsbury on
March 23, 1871. Four children were born to this union,
William A. DeVolt now living in the state of New York,
Mrs. Eva Bly of Stillman Valley, Illinois, Arthur S. DeVolt
of Fayette, Iowa and Mrs. Alice Brooks, now deceased.
Of his own family of brothers and sisters, five in number,
only one, Mrs. Elizabeth Oakes is living to mourn for him.
There are eight grandchildren and many more distant
relatives. When he was seventeen years of age he
embraced the religion of Jesus Christ and united with the
Methodist Episcopal church and remained in that fellowship
until his death.
The funeral took place from the M. E. church at Stanley,
Tuesday afternoon August 27th. Rev. H. Foote conducting.
assisted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, the pastor of the church. The
remains were laid to rest in the Stanley cemetery there to
await the summons in the morning of the resurrection.
