Mary Wells Laudon was born at Gunder in Clayton
County, March 24, 1877. She was one of a family of
10 children and her parents were Thomas and Mary
Estella Wells.
As a child she received her education in the public
school at Clermont. On October 2, 1893, she became
the bride of Henry W. Laudon. They were married at
Elkader. The couple had two children, one son and one
daughter. The son lived only for six months, while the
daughter, Helen, survives both parents.
For over 56 years Mr. and Mrs. Laudon lived together.
On February 19, 1950 Mr. Laudon died.
Mrs. Laudon continued living in Oelwein after her
husband's death and has been a resident of Oelwein for
51 years. She died Monday, May 6, 1963 after a short
stay at Mercy Hospital. She was 86 years, 1 month and
12 days.
She was preceded in death by her son and her husband.
Surviving are her only daughter, Mrs. Helen Peterson and
one sister, Mrs. Chris Anderson, both of Oelwein.
Funeral services were held at Zion American Lutheran
Church, Oelwein on May 9, 1963. Interment was made in
Woodlawn Cemetery.Oelwein Daily Register - 13 May 1963
