Obituary ~ Chester W. Miner was born in Grant
county, Wisconsin, October 10, 1858, and
passed away at Waverly, Iowa Sunday morning,
March 12, 1911.
He came to this county with his mother when but
a small boy, and lived mostly in Randalia and
vicinity until about four years ago when he moved
to Oelwein, Iowa. He was married to Miss Adeline
McFall, December 20, 1881. To this union eight
children were born. His wife and five children, Mrs.
Ethel Hall of Maynard, Misses Mabel, Laurel and
Hazel, also Master Clifford survive him.
Mr. Miner was a mason by trade which business he
followed until about three years ago when he
entered the boiler maker department of the Chicago
Great Western shops at Oelwein, where he worked
until January 30, 1911 when he was taken seriously
ill and on the advice of his physician was taken to the
Mercy Hospital in Waverly, March 7, and submitted to
an operation the following day which failed to benefit
him. His death followed from cancer of the liver.
Besides his immediate family his aged mother, three
sisters and two brothers are left to mourn.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of
America and Brotherhood of American Yeomen, and
held insurance in both societies. Funeral services were
held at the family residence, 222 Fifth Ave E,
Oelwein, Wednesday morning conducted by Rev. Crowder
of the M. E. church. The Woodmen had charge of the
funeral and a large delegation accompanied the remains
to Randalia and to the Dunham Grove Cemetery where
