Irene Leona Alsip was born September
10, 1903 at Milledgeville, Illinois,
and died October 6, 1909 aged
5 years and twenty-six days. She
was the daughter of Millard Alsip, of
Oelwein, but since the death of her
mother when Irene was but a babe of
Eleven months, she has received a
mothers love and tenderest care in the
home of her father's sister, Mrs. Edward
Wine. ~Thus little Irene be-
came the pride and Joy of two homes,
her sunny disposition and loving,
winsome ways making for her a large
place in the hearts of all. About
seven weeks ago she was taken critically
ill with bowel trouble and
though her life-hung in the balance
for many days she recovered sufficiently
to be up and dressed, seemingly
on the road to complete recovery
when a hard cold contracted in
her weakened state brought on a relapse
which proved fatal. Short services
were held at the home Friday
at 1 o'clock p. m. after which the
funeral was held from the Christian
church in Oelwein, that city having
been the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wine
up to last July. Many beautiful floral
offerings covered the casket, one particularly
worthy of mention being an
exquisite piece from Mr. Alsip's fellow
workmen. After the services little
Irene was tenderly laid to rest in
the Oelwein cemetery. The sympathy
of the community Is extended to the
father and two brothers, Harold and
John and to the foster parents and
brother, George Wine.Oelwein Register - 12 Oct 1909
