Mrs. Harriet Older 1827-1897

Mrs. Harriet Older died at her residence
in this city, Sunday morning,
Jan. 12, aged 74 years. Mr. and Mrs.
Older came to Oelwein from their farm
near Westgate six years ago. Mr.
Older died in 1897.
Harriet Winegar Older was born in
Herkimer, New York, Nov. 27, 1827,
she married Edwin T. Older in 1844.
In 1856 they came to Iowa, and in 1857
settled nettled on a farm not far from
Westgate where they lived nearly 40
years. She leaves three sons, Charles,
of Mitchell, S. D., Clarence, who resides
in Minnesota, and Clark whose
home is near Weatgate, these with a
daughter, Mrs. Innis, with whom she
has been living were all with her in
her last hours. Mrs. Older had been
a member, of the Westgate M. E.
church about forty years.
Funeral services were held at the
family residence by Rev. Dilman
Smith and at Westgate by Rev. J. B.
Gidney. Her life was a long and useful
one, and she passed away in the
blessed hope of the gospel. The
bereaved family have the sympathy of
of a large circle of friends.
