Mrs. Mary I. Lewis was born at Olney,
Ill., Feb. 2, 1867 and died Sunday
morning, Nov. 26, 1916, at Henrotin
hospital, Chicago. Her remains
were brought to Oelwein and the funeral
was held from Sacred Heart
church and her Interment in Catholic
cemetery by the side of her father
and two brothers who had gone
before. She is survived by one brother
George W. Brassie, of LaFayette, Ind.,
and her mother, Mrs. Matt Shomer, of
Oelwein. Her's was a character that
was greatly esteemed by all who know
her and her many friends will greatly
miss her. Death was unexpected. She
was suffering from an accident that
was caused by a fall, breaking a limb
between the knee and hip. The cast
had been removed and all was favorable
for a speedy recovery. When an
enbolism of the heart artery seized
her and her sufferings and trials were
over and the bliss of heaven opened
to her sight. Her's was a beautiful
and useful life. She was an unceasing
worker for her church and a very devout
Catholic, a leader in the W. R. C.
and enjoyed many high honors during
her life. She was appointed a national
Aid and wore her badge to her grave.
All we remember and love of her is of
good deeds. She has left us and her
loss we deeply feel, yet tis God who
hath bereft us. He can all our sorrows
heal.
