Mrs. Fred Auer died at her home
seven miles north-west of the city Friday,
May 2, at 7:30 a. m , and the funeral
occurred from the Lutheran
church of this city Sunday afternoon
Rev. Zeilinger officiating. She was
born in Saxony in 1848, and was 54
years, 4 months and 28 days of age at
the time of her death. She has been
a resident of this locality since 1870.
Her first husband was N. G. Smith
who died in 1875. In June 1876 she
was united in marriage to Mr. Fred
Auer who survives her. Mrs. Auer
was the mother of the following children
who remain to mourn her loss:
Otto Smith, Mrs. Albert Thorman
Mrs. Anna Suchtleven, Charles Auer
and Emma Auer. The immediate
cause of her death was pneumonia.
Brief services were held at the home
at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, after
which a long procession of relatives
and friends followed the remains to
the Oelwein Lutheran church where
Rev. Zeilinger pronounced the funeral
discourse. She had been a member
of the Lutheran church for many
years, and died in the Christian faith.
She is sincerely mourned by her husband,
children and other relatives and
