Westgate News ...
"Uncle" Henry Wilbur was killed by a train at the
crossing just south of the depot. Mr. Wilbur had
been at the Louis Bender home to get some feed
and was returning home. A train was switching at
the time he got to the depot and attempted to
cross the track ahead of the engine, but before he
could be stopped or warned of his danger he was
killed. The engineer saw his danger but although
he put forth every effort to stop his engine he could
not stop in time to prevent the terrible accident
and the engine severed the body below the shoulder
and on arm in two places. Mr. Wilbur was eighty-four
years of age and has been a resident of Fayette County
for a number of years. Deep sympathy is expressed
for the bereaved wife and children. The last services
were held Sunday.
