DIED AT AUBURN
Mrs. Frank Badger, formerly
Miss Mattie Burch, an old time
resident of Oelwein, died at her
home in Auburn near West
Union, yesterday at 5 p. m. The
funeral services will be held Monday
at two o'clock at the Burnham
Funeral Home in West
Union. Burial will be in Oelwein.

OBITUARY
Mrs. Frank I. Badger fell into the last sleep Friday,
July 18th at Auburn, Ia., after an illness of several years.
Wonderful medical skill at Iowa City prolonged her life
and they did all possible for her.
As she drifted into the valley of shadows with the faith of
her fathers to soothe and sustain her, she was lovingly
cared for by her husband and sister Mrs. Monnahon.
Martha L. Burch was born in Oelwein, Iowa March 21, 1876
daughter of L. M. and Floretta (Miller) Burch.
Her father was the first permanent settler in Jefferson
Township, built the small log cabin on the Oelwein Homestead
and donated the land for the first cemetery, now known
as Oakdale at Oelwein.
At the age of twelve, she with her parents moved near
Brainard, Iowa where she attended public school. When a
young woman she attended the Iowa Normal located at
Oelwein.
After finishing her course in stenography and bookkeeping
she was employed as a teacher in the school.
Mrs. Badger united with the Baptist church under the ministry
of Rev. E. H. Gillett.
She was unted in marriage October 13, 1897 to Frank L.
Badger. To this union were born two children, Imogene dying
at the age of nine. Kenneth passing at Alma, Nebraska in 1932.
She is survived by her husband, four grandchildren, two
brothers and two sisters; L. L. Burch, Washington State; James
A. Burch, Mrs. A. J. Anders and Mrs. M. J. Monnahon all of
Oelwein, Iowa and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.
After marriage Mr. and Mrs. Badger resided near West Union,
then moved to Oelwein and later to White Bluffs, Washington,
returning to Iowa November 1933.
The past two and one half years they have lived on the H. W.
Hall farm at Auburn caring for Herb Hall in his declining years.
The last services were held from the Burnham funeral home,
West Union, Ia. Monday, June 21st conducted by Rev. E. R. Dodd.
Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa, near her
father and other near relatives.
