Funeral services for John Wayne Shipton were held Monday, November 10 at 11 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. David Johnson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery in Clermont, Iowa. Casket bearers were David Appelman, Allen Johnson, Marvin Larson, Richard Klein, Roy Tatro, E.L. "Diz" Dean.

John Wayne Shipton, oldest son of John B. and Lenora (Oldag) Shipton, was born August 21, 1921 in Clermont, Iowa. He died August 21, 1921 in the community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. He was baptized on December 7, 1930 at the Union Sunday School in Clermont, Iowa and received his education in the Clermont Public Schools. Wayne served 3 and a half years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, 18 months of which were spent in England.

On January 8, 1942 he was united in marriage with Vinah Nelson in the Clermont Lutheran Parsonage. They had 2 children. He was in business for 45 years, first in partnership with his father in general trucking and hauling gravel, and later with his son, John. They expanded their business to include excavating.

He was preceded in death by his father John B. Shipton.

Surviving are his mother, Lenora Shipton of West Union, Iowa; his wife, Vinah; a son, John Shipton and his wife Marilyn, and a daughter, Cheryl Shipton, all of Clermont, Iowa; and 3 brothers, Charles Shipton of Eldorado, Iowa, Frank Shipton of Waukegan, Illinois and Oran Shipton of Deerfield, Illinois.
