A Funeral Mass for Beata Irene Schmelzer was conducted Monday, September 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, Iowa by the Rev. Paul Otting. It was concelebrated by Rev. Donald P. Heineman and the Rev. Thomas J. Schwinn. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Union, Iowa. Casket bearers were Henry Langreck, Kevin Gossling, Jim Langreck, Dan Chipera, Carl Kuhn, John Chipera, Scott Gossling, and Jeff Jirak.

Beata Irene Schmelzer, daughter of John and Lena (Mihm) Langreck was born August 18, 1925 in Fayette County, Iowa. She died Saturday morning, September 12, 1987 in the Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, Iowa. She attended St. Luke's Elementary School at St. Lucas, Iowa. On October 12, 1949 she married Raymond Schmelzer in St. Luke's Church, St. Lucas, Iowa. They adopted 2 daughters. They lived near West Union until 1967 when they moved to a farm south of Postville, Iowa. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court 814, West Union, Iowa, the St. Bridget Rosary Society of Postville, Iowa and Bob's Creek Neighbors Club.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Langreck and one daughter, Mary Jo.

She is survived by her mother, Lena Langreck, her husband, Raymond, a daughter, Jean Gregory of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 3 grandchildren, Tamara, Brandon, and Vincent; 6 brothers, Henry Langreck, Louis Langreck, and Charles Langreck, all of West Union, Iowa, Clem Langreck of Waucoma, Iowa, Francis Langreck of Lawler, Iowa, and Jerome Langreck of Spring Valley, California; 6 sisters, Marie Langreck of West Union, Iowa, Mrs. Stanley (Agatha) Busta, and Mrs. Larry (Edna) Jirak, both of Lawler, Iowa, Mrs. Paul (Lillian) Chipera, Mrs. Martin (Margaret) Gossling, and Mrs. Julian (Virginia) Kuhn, all of Fort Atkinson, Iowa.
